1. Lexmark MB3442adw
Oasthar Verdict
The light, compact Lexmark MB3442adw mono laser AIO is relatively fast, prints well, and supports high print volumes for the price, making it a good value for any office south of the enterprise.
Pros
- Vivid print quality
- 42 pages per minute
- Duplex print and scan
- Touchscreen control
Cons
- Non-tilting display
- Processing speed varies
- Not the cheapest toner
At first glance, it doesn’t look like you’re getting much multifunction printer for your money, but the little Lexmark MB3442adw ticks all of our boxes. The compact design is an advantage, while it still manages to fit in a whole lot of paper, toner and features. The duplex printing and scanning is well executed and the touchscreen and front USB ports are certainly convenient.
It can print large documents such as manuscripts very quickly and above all, the quality is consistently high. If you need to print lots of pages and you require the added functionality of a scanner and ADF, then this is the AIO for you.
2. Brother MFC-J4335DW
Oasthar Verdict
The Brother MFC-J4335DW prints, scans, copies, and faxes; offers paper handling suitable for a micro office, a home office, or personal use; and stands out for its speed and low cost per page.
Pros
- Duplex printing
- Fast print speed for the price
- Fax function
- Prints from and scans to mobile devices
- Low price plus low cost per page
Cons
- ADF does not support duplex scanning
- Text quality is poor at small font sizes and with some stylized fonts
The MFC-J4335DW offers exceptional speed and capability for the total cost of ownership. If your scanning needs are minimal enough that you don’t need an ADF, and you also don’t print much, the Brother MFC-J1205W offers a low enough cost per page that you might want to consider it for its lower initial price, or you might consider the Epson XP-4100 for its focus on photos and photo quality.
Alternatively, if you must have at least manual duplexing for scanning, consider the Epson WF-3820. But the Brother MFC-J4335DW hits the Goldilocks’ zone for enough features to make it our Editors’ Choice for light duty inkjet AIO for personal to micro office use.
3. Brother HL-L2370DW
Oasthar Verdict
The Brother HL-L2370DW is fairly basic compared to other monochrome printers on the market, but the simplistic approach yields an impressive, reliable printer that can handle any document you throw its way, all while costing a fraction of a penny per print.
Pros
- Affordable
- Easy to use
- AirPrint/Google Cloud Print
Cons
- No copying
- No faxing
- No scanning
The HL-L2370DW isn’t going to impress you with clever tricks or features, but time and time again, it will pump out reliable monochrome prints at a cost few other printers can compete with. Setting it up is straightforward and although connecting it to Wi-Fi does take a bit, you should only have to do it once, after which it will perform near-flawlessly. Even at retail price, the HL-L2370DW is an absolute steal and the last printer you should have to buy for a long time if all you need is black and white prints.
4. HP DeskJet 3755
Oasthar Verdict
A capable printer that can do most of the home office and life tasks you need it to, in a super small footprint.
Pros
- Small size
- Prints, copies, scans, prints photos
- Overall quality is great
- Photo printing is high quality
- Cute & colorful
Cons
- Only one sided printing
- Included ink cartridge is small
- Printing directly from iPhone photos app didn’t work
For the most part, the HP DeskJet 3755 works like a dream. This is a great printer, and can match speed with other printers of the same size and type. The printer itself is light, easy to move, it does photos and different sizes of document and it doesn’t take up a lot of space.
I’d recommend this printer particularly for an office where the bulk of printing will be done from dedicated computers, and are mostly document in black and white. Even so it’s capable at colour and multi-page document management too. Downsides? Mine didn’t play well with my iPhone photos app for printing… and I do wish this one could print two-sided, but it won’t. And I was kind of miffed that the included ink cartridge was basically good for a handful of pages. Even so, I can recommend the HP 3755 to you for your small-space home office needs.
5. Brother MFC-J4535DW
Oasthar Verdict
The Brother MFC-J4535DW is excellent for a home office. It can print many pages before you need to buy replacement cartridges, so you won’t spend as much money on ink as you would with other traditional cartridge-based inkjets. If scanning is a big part of your job, don’t worry: it has a flatbed scanner and an ADF that can easily scan multi-page documents sheets. Unfortunately, you might prefer a different model if printing speed matters a lot to you since it doesn’t print as quickly as other office models. Also, its ADF scanner can’t duplex scan.
Pros
- Very high page yields.
- Very low cost-per-print.
- Feels well-built.
Cons
- ADF can’t duplex scan.
- Not very fast at printing.
The Brother INKvestment Tank MFC-J4535DW is an all-in-one printer designed for a home office. It can print many black and color pages before its cartridges run out of ink, so you won’t need to worry about replacing them too often, helping you save money on running costs. It has a flatbed scanner with extendable hinges and an automatic document feeder that can scan a 20-page document in under one minute.
Unfortunately, photos need to be printed in “High” quality to prevent excessive banding, and even then, colors look washed out. That said, if good photo printing quality isn’t a priority for you, this is an excellent addition to your office setup.
6. Canon Color imageCLASS MF644Cdw
Oasthar Verdict
Canon’s Color imageClass MF644Cdw laser printer delivers high-quality output at relatively fast speeds, making it a good choice for low-volume print and copy applications.
Pros
- Good print quality.
- Single-pass ADF.
- USB thumb drive support.
- Excellent UI portal and security.
Cons
- High running costs.
- Paper input capacity not expandable.
The Canon MF644Cdw is an excellent printer for home or small office use. It prints quickly, supports duplex scanning and has lots of connectivity options, including fax with handheld support. Most importantly, it can print lots of copies before the toner needs to be changed, and there are higher-yield options available too. It might be a bit of an investment, but it should pay off in the long run.
7. HP Envy Pro 6420 printer
Oasthar Verdict
HP’s slick AIO packs every feature, including auto duplex and Bluetooth, but there’s not much ink in the box and refills are pricey without an Instant Ink subscription.
Pros
- Sleek space-saving design
- Useful 35-page ADF
- Strong app support
- Great wireless connectivity
Cons
- Slow print speeds
- Limited paper capacity
- Wasteful tri-clour cartridge
- Expensive ink
If your print demands are not heavy, but you do require flexibility, the HP Envy Pro 6420 offers all the key features, including duplex printing in a very competent all-in-one device, with a price tag that’s as attractive as its design. We were impressed by its ease of use and overall print quality, while its lack of an LCD display, the limited paper capacity and slow print speed can all be overlooked if you’re printing on a small scale.
However, the meagre amount of ink included in the box and the cost of replacement cartridges make it something of a false economy. We would recommend this printer for occasional printing in a home office to anyone prepared to take up an Instant Ink subscription.
8. Canon PIXMA MG3620
Oasthar Verdict
High image quality, fast scanning and fast color copying make the Pixma MG3620 a great option as long as you don’t need extra features.
Pros
- Quick to print graphics
- Very fast scanner
- Duplexer for two-sided prints
- Makes color copies quickly
- Excellent photo scan quality
Cons
- No separate photo paper tray or document feeder
- Two-sided printing is slow, with less sharp-looking text
- Lacks an LCD
The Canon Pixma MG3620 delivers a lot for the money. It makes very attractive photo prints, produces excellent photo scans and prints razor-sharp text (at least on high-quality paper). The printer’s features are basic, but if you rarely need to swap paper, don’t make many multipage copies and don’t need an LCD for stand-alone operation, it’s unlikely you’ll wish you’d bought a multifunction printer with more bells and whistles.
9. Epson EcoTank ET-2800
Oasthar Verdict
The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 performs well for family use. Its cheap ink bottle refills and incredible page yields mean it’s remarkably cheap to maintain in the long run, easing the load on your wallet. It prints great-looking, vibrant photos, and its color accuracy is fine for everyday use. It has a high-resolution flatbed scanner, but the lack of an ADF makes digitizing multi-page documents cumbersome.
Pros
- Incredibly cheap cost-per-print.
- Prints great-looking, vibrant photos.
- Has a high-resolution flatbed scanner.
Cons
- Lacks an automatic document feeder.
- Can’t print directly from external storage.
The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 is a supertank printer that yields an incredible number of pages. This keeps running costs outstandingly low since the ink bottle refills are cheap, making it a great option for printing in bulk. Its flatbed scanner’s high resolution can capture fine details, and you can scan very thick media since you can detach the entire scan lid. Additionally, it prints great-quality photos with smooth gradients and vibrant, fairly accurate colors. Unfortunately, its build quality is mediocre, with sheet rollers that are difficult to reach in case of paper jams, and it prints slowly. It also lacks an automatic document feeder, so it isn’t a viable option for easily digitizing multi-page documents.
10. Epson WorkForce WF-7210DTW printer
Oasthar Verdict
The Epson WorkForce WF-7210DTW is a likable A3 colour printer with low running costs, good connectivity, a sensible price and duplex printing. Oh and it does great prints as well. It might be worth investing a bit more to get an all-in-one though.
Pros
- Great value for money
- Long warranty
- Fast
- Great print quality
- Two trays
- Duplex A3 (not just A4)
- Low consumables cost
Cons
- Paper handling can be problematic
- No memory card reader or front USB
Aimed at the micro business community, the WorkForce WF-7210DTW(opens in new tab) is Epson’s entry level A3+ colour inkjet printer, replacing the WF-7110DTW, and remains the only one of its siblings to lack scan, copy and fax functionality.
