#1. Samsung QN90A QLED

The best QLED television that we’ve tested is the Samsung QN90A QLED. It’s an amazingly well-rounded TV that has something for everyone. It delivers an excellent movie-watching experience in a dark room, with amazing contrast and a great local dimming feature driven by the new Mini LED backlighting.

It’s an extremely bright TV in SDR, as it has fantastic reflection handling. Unlike most TVs with VA panels, it has decent viewing angles thanks to its ‘Ultra Viewing Angle’ technology, making it a great choice for sports fans. It’s an amazing TV for gaming, with outstanding low input lag, excellent response time, and an impressive array of gaming features. It has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for gaming on a next-gen console, and it supports both variable refresh rate (VRR) technology and Auto low Latency Mode, meaning that you can get the most out of your new console. You can even turn the TV into a virtual 32:9 screen ratio, great for PC gamers.

#2. Hisense U8G

If you prefer something a bit cheaper, check out the Hisense U8G instead. It’s not quite as bright as the Samsung QN90A QLED because it doesn’t feature Mini LED backlighting, and the local dimming feature isn’t as effective at improving contrast, but it’s still an impressive TV that should please most people. It has outstanding contrast, a great local dimming feature, and impressive gaming features. It has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth with VRR support, low input lag, and a quick response time for a smooth and responsive gaming experience. The QLED panel delivers a slightly wider color gamut, but this isn’t a noticeable difference and can vary between units, and it doesn’t get as bright, it still makes highlights pop.

Overall, the Samsung is a better choice due to its higher peak brightness and better viewing angles. If you’re looking to save a bit of money, the Hisense is almost as good.

#3. Hisense U9DG

The best QLED TV for watching HDR movies is the Hisense U9DG. It’s a unique flagship TV that uses different technology than the other QLED TVs, and it still maintains its quantum dot layer. It has two LCD panels stacked on top of each other and combining both with the remarkable local dimming feature results in the deepest blacks we’ve tested on any LED TV.

The outstanding dark room performance rivals that of OLED TVs, making it an excellent choice for watching movies, whether they’re in SDR or HDR. It supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision formats, so you don’t have to worry about which format your content is in, and it displays a wide color gamut for HDR content. Although its HDR peak brightness in real scenes is just okay, and not as good as some other TVs, it gets extremely bright with small highlights but loses brightness with larger areas of bright colors.

#4. Samsung QN900A 8k QLED

The Samsung QN900A 8k QLED is the best QLED TV we’ve tested in the 8k category. It’s a flagship TV with a ton of features and a borderless design that has some of the thinnest bezels we’ve seen on any TV. The main downside to getting an 8k TV is that there isn’t much 8k content available yet, so you can’t use it to its full capabilities.

It uses Mini LED backlighting, allowing it to get extremely bright, meaning glare won’t be an issue, and it makes highlights pop in HDR. It has a VA panel with a sub-par contrast for this panel type because of the ‘Ultra Viewing Angle’ layer that improves the viewing angles at the cost of contrast, but its local dimming feature does a great job at deepening any blacks. It displays a wide color gamut, has decent color volume, and has good gradient handling, but you may notice some banding.

#5. Hisense U6G

The best QLED TV we’ve tested in the budget category is the Hisense U6G. It’s a well-rounded option that offers better picture quality than some more expensive, high-end options. It has a few features that should please most people, and the user-friendly built-in Android TV has many apps you can download.

It supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR formats, so you can easily stream your favorite content no matter the format it’s in. It’s great for watching HDR movies because it has a high native contrast ratio that displays deep blacks. The full-array local dimming feature is decent at improving the picture quality in dark scenes, and there’s minimal blooming around bright objects. It displays a wide color gamut and has okay HDR brightness, so some highlights pop, but not all, which is somewhat expected for a budget TV.

#6. Vizio M7 Series Quantum 2021

If you’re a gamer and want something with some extra features, then look into the Vizio M7 Series Quantum 2021. Its overall picture quality isn’t as good as the Hisense U6G because it has worse local dimming and doesn’t get as bright. However, gamers should enjoy its FreeSync VRR support to reduce screen tearing, and although it’s limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, gaming still feels responsive thanks to its low input lag and quick response time. It also has an optional backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur, but it doesn’t work well and cause image duplication. It’s a good choice for dark room gaming as its VA panel has a high contrast ratio, but the local dimming doesn’t handle moving objects well.

If you want the best QLED TV and you’re on a budget, the Hisense is a great choice, but if you prefer something with VRR support, then check out the Vizio.
