The best AirPrint printer we’ve tested is the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw. This bulky but sturdy laser all-in-one has nearly all the features you need for your office. Its ADF-equipped scanner processes a whopping 25 pages per minute, supports formats up to 8.5″ x 14″, and scans double-sided documents in a single pass. It prints very quickly at 21 black or 29 color pages per minute and doesn’t take long to warm up. The toner cartridges yield roughly 2400 black and 2100 color prints, so you won’t need to replace them often unless you regularly print in bulk. The cartridges are expensive, but that’s because they contain the drum, which means you won’t have to spend extra to replace it separately. Color accuracy is okay, but like most laser printers, it isn’t ideal for photo printing.

If you regularly print graphics or photos at the office, it’s best to go with an inkjet model. We recommend the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850, an all-in-one printer with a refillable ink tank. It yields nearly 5000 black pages or 2500 color pages, and the ink bottles are fairly inexpensive, resulting in a low cost per print. It prints up to 25 black or color pages per minute and can perform automatic double-sided printing. Printed photos look detailed and vibrant, albeit not very color-accurate. The downsides are that it’s more expensive, and inkjet printers require a little more maintenance as the printheads can clog after extended use.

It doesn’t feel particularly sturdy and lacks an automatic feeder, but it produces good-quality documents and photos. The main drawback with a cheap model like this is its low page yield. Its two-cartridge system yields only around 200 black and color prints, meaning you’ll have to replace the cartridges often. They aren’t expensive, but the cost will still add up quickly if you print a lot, which is why it’s only a good option if you only print once in a while and need something that can get the job done.

5. Canon PIXMA TR8620
